For The Love of Color!

If you’ve read my past posts, you know that I love color in my house. If this is your first visit, you can read up on a couple of house posts here, or here, or here!

And if you know my mom, you know this apple did not fall far from the tree! Therefore, we did some painting at her house in Oklahoma while I was visiting last week. We painted the built-in hutch in her dining area. It was your standard, Plain-Jane stained wood from the 80’s. I know…I know…many of you think it’s horrible, and just downright unthinkable, to paint stained wood. But moma and I don’t! Color can do wonders for a room AND your entire being!

And color…it is!

Here is what it looked like before (minus the doors).

It’s not quite this bright, but we were having a difficult time with the sunlight and my phone. But you can see what a difference it made! She loves it. Before, the hutch blended into the floors and her dining room table. Now, it’s quite a statement!

Then, when I got back home this weekend, I was thumbing through my new HGTV magazine and on page 38 was this picture:

Validation, Moma!!

Never be afraid of color, especially if it makes you happy! As Mr. always says, “it’s just paint”.

Good Thing It Was Free!

I was at Pier One the other day buying some lights for our pool party and a picture for our entry way. I received a coupon via email that morning for a free mug with a $30 purchase. Score!! I picked out a colorful toucan mug, as I thought it would be so cute in my kitchen. As I was carrying in the sacks of goodies, I dropped the mug…on the patio! Instantly, I knew it was a goner. Even though the salesclerk had wrapped it well and put it in it’s own sack, I could hear pieces of it moving around. I was telling my daughter about it over the phone that evening and she asked if I was going to try and glue it back together. I told her no and that I threw it in the trash without even opening it! She thought I should at least look at it! 🙂 So I dug the sack out of the trash (thankfully, all that was in the trash was paper). But alas, this is what it looked like when I unwrapped it.

And here it is with all the pieces spread out! There were so many tiny slivers of ceramic! But at least it’s eyes were intact and whole!

So I spent the next two hours super gluing it back together.   At one point, I got a little anxious as I thought I had super glued both of my hands to the mug! All I could envision was trying to drive myself to the ER with both of my hands stuck to a toucan mug! 🙂

So after two hours of gluing and one tube of super glue… This is what I have!

For some reason, it just didn’t fit back together very well AND I had a lot of extra pieces left over! 🙂

Y’all have a great weekend! Later gators!

Jalapeno Popper Dip

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone!! Hope everyone had a terrific weekend. We had a Pool Opening Party on Saturday, except the pool temperature was still too chilly for us to get in! (although, Mr. did jump in two weeks ago to fix the pool light, brr!) But at least the weather was perfect for the get-together!

I made this flip flop wreath for the party to hang on the gate. Really easy and sooo colorful!

We had lots to eat and drink, and the company was great! A few things on the menu were Baked Hawaiian Sandwiches, BBQ Brisket, and Jalapeno Popper Dip. This dip is yum-my! But I have to warn you…it spares no calories!! I guess that’s why it’s so tasty and good!! 🙂

Jalapeno Popper Dip

2 – 8 oz. cream cheese – room temperature

1 cup mayonnaise

1 cup shredded Mexican cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

4 oz. can diced green chilis (I left these out of my mine)

4 fresh jalapenos – deseeded and diced

1 cup Panko bread crumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup butter – melted

Mix the 1st six ingredients together. Spread into a greased 2 quart baking dish.

Mix the bread crumbs, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, and butter together. Sprinkle over top of dip.

Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until top is brown and bubbly.

Hope y’all enjoy it as much as we do! Y’all have a good week.
